Wholesome Fields market garden

We are a new no dig market garden based at Rainton farm near Gatehouse of Fleet, growing over 45 varieties of nutritious vegetables for sale within the local community.

The main purpose for our market garden is to produce successful harvests whilst constantly improving the soil, managing this holistically so that we leave the land in a healthier state than we find it. We are very lucky that we have been given a great head start here at Rainton farm as we are already working in biodynamic soil.

Another huge benefit of being on a diverse farm is that the wastes from one enterprise on the farm can resource another. All inputs for our market garden, ie compost, will therefore be made here on the farm, so we know exactly what is going into our soil.

As well as ensuring all inputs to the garden are local, we aim for all outputs from the garden to be local. We therefore aim to create the interest and demand to sell all our produce to customers in the local area, to reduce the use of diesel and petrol.

We want to farm in harmony with nature; capture carbon and sequester it back into our soil; take pride in our stewardship of the land; create strong community connections and reignite the passion we all share for real food!
